Do I need a hardware wallet?
A hardware wallet keeps your keys offline. It is worth buying once losing your crypto would really hurt. Answer four questions and get a plain answer, including "not yet".
What a hardware wallet does, and does not do
It keeps your private keys on a small device and signs each transaction there, after you check it on the device's screen. Malware on your computer cannot read the key. It does not protect a seed phrase you type into a website, and it signs whatever you approve. Lesson 25: Hot vs. cold wallets explains hot and cold wallets, and Lesson 28: How to choose a hardware wallet covers the six checks before buying one.
Why "not yet" is a real answer
While you hold a small amount and are still learning, a careful phone wallet teaches you the same habits: writing down a seed phrase, checking addresses, approving with care. Those habits matter more than the device. Buy a hardware wallet when the amount grows to something you would hate to lose.
